DIRECT ANSWER
Definition
Entity resolution connects source-specific records that refer to the same or related legal and reporting entities. AUMSearch preserves CRD and CIK identifiers separately, supports one-to-many relationships, records the evidence for each join, and leaves ambiguous relationships unresolved.
01
Evidence hierarchy
- Explicit identifier or relationship reported in an official source.
- Deterministic mapping from stable source fields.
- Multiple corroborating attributes such as legal name, address, website, ownership, and filing history.
- Human review of the underlying records.
- Name similarity alone is insufficient.
02
Relationship confidence
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Direct | The source explicitly reports the relationship |
| Deterministic | Stable source fields produce an unambiguous mapping |
| High-confidence inferred | Multiple independent attributes support the relationship |
| Reviewed | A human verified the source records |
| Unresolved | Evidence is insufficient or conflicting |
03
Relationships are not always one-to-one
One adviser brand can include multiple legal entities. One CRD record can relate to multiple EDGAR filer accounts, and one Form 13F filing can involve other managers. Parent, affiliate, relying-adviser, and filing-manager relationships must be modeled rather than collapsed.
04
Challenges and corrections
Readers should be able to report a suspected bad join. A correction should preserve the prior mapping, evidence, change date, and affected records rather than silently rewriting history.
